A Spotlight on Cameron Boyce

Actor, singer, dancer, and humanitarian Cameron Boyce sadly passed away July 6th, 2019 at just 20 years old. It is reported Boyce died from a seizure whilst sleeping, due to an ongoing medical problem he was currently receiving treatment for, as stated by his family.

The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion of all who knew and loved him

A spokesperson for the Boyce family

With fascinating history, Boyce described himself as ‘bl-ewish’ – black and Jewish, in an interview with RAW. Additionally, his grandmother, Jo Ann Boyce, was also part of the ‘Clinton 12‘, one of the first 12 black teenagers integrated into public school in 1956 – as ordered by the U.S. Supreme Court in Brown v. Board of Education.

Acting

Boyce was well known for his roles on Disney ChannelLuke in Jessie, and Carlos in Descendants. He also starred in many feature films, including his screen debut Mirrors, Eagle Eye, and Grown Ups & Grown Ups 2 alongside Adam Sandler.

Philanthropy

Cameron Boyce also made significant waves as a philanthropist. In 2017, he helped to raise over $30,000 for the Thirst Project, an organisation aiming to bring safe drinking water to communities around the world where it is not immediately available. In 2018, Boyce was presented the Pioneering Spirit Award at the Thirst Projects 9th annual Thirst Gala. You can watch his speech below, in an instagram post by the Thirst Project in dedication to his contributions.

Boyce was also an avid supporter of United Way, an initiative working towards advancing the common good by creating opportunities for all. Focusing on education, income and health, they aim to make measurable changes in communities through multiple partnerships such as schools, government agencies, businesses, financial institutions, community development corporations, and others.

In May 2019, he participated in United Way‘s opening ceremony of the 12th annual HomeWalk in downtown Los Angeles – one of the nation’s largest public events to end homelessness, which raised a total of $1.1m.
